This year we took our first trip to Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN and the experience was nothing short of amazing! Its time to look back at some of the things that were said/written about this year’s festival!

First up are three BE2018 mixes that ended up on our Mixcloud account:

Petridisch Mix – featuring Jaga Jazzist, Me’Shell NDegeocello, Aine O’Dwyer, Gas, Jon Gibson, Diamanda Galas, Yuka Honda and more

Pedal Fuzz Mix – featuring Susan Alcorn, Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog, Yuka Honda, The Thing, Wu Fei, Tal National and more

Andrew Ward Mix – featuring Steve Gunn, Anna & Elizabeth, Jenny Hval, Mark Feldman, Ikue Mori, Arto Lindsay and more

We brought back quite a bit of video footage from the festival and you can watch it all via BE 2018 playlist and/or you can also read some of our reports:

Algiers – aka Tangiers (due to absence of Ryan Mahan) with packed secret show at Pilot Light

Arto Lindsay – former Mars/DNA mastermind performing with Paal Nilssen-Love at The Standard

Jaga Jazzist – Norwegian 9-piece instrumental band

Kieran Hebden (Four Tet) + Mats Gustaffson (The Thing) – follow-up to a sold-out show that Four Tet played the night prior, a wild fusion of squealing sax and electronics

Diamanda Galas / Nief Norf – Greek siren taking us on a journey into the darkest depths of her soul (with some swearing involved) + Nief Norf playing Steve Reich’s Quartets
