New Music Releases – August 2020: Pt. 4

Talking about new music from August – one more time! See part 1 here, part 2 here and part 3 here.

Vestals – Holy Origin (Dust Editions)

Vestals is the avatar of Los Angeles based artist Lisa McGee, whose debut album Forever Falling Toward the Sky was released by Root Strata in 2012. She has also discreetly operated in U.S. underground music for the last decade as a member of the dream-drone duo Higuma with Evan Caminiti, while making vocal contributions to acclaimed albums by Jefre Cantu Ledesma and Sarah Davachi.

Jyoti – Mama, You Can Bet! (SomeOthaShip Connect)

This record is an adventure through my attitude. It’s been programmed to echo emotional states I visit into sonic locations because the art of music production has a mirror-like quality that encourages that. I wanted my mother to know that she deserves passionate love, that i see her as a beautiful woman. Wanted my niece to know I dig her genius dance & brain moves. Wanted to make a bebop experiment out of how astral travel to Benin could feel. To dedicate a tune to how proud I am of my grandson’s love of writing. To tell my buddy how much we still love her even though she’s left this world. All types of intimate stuff as usual. Because this style of music is the closest to my heart. – Georgia Anne Muldrow

Counter Silence – Pathways (Subexotic Records)

Pathways picks its way gracefully through a series of landscapes, interweaving both a literal sense of place and a range of emotional vistas. The listener finds themselves alone with their thoughts, wandering amongst fragile glimpses of discovery and loss.
