“A coach from Rhode Island put out a national ad looking for a professional dodge ball team. There were only two responses- Patrick from Kansas City and Steve from Providence. Despite the timid turn out, the coach scheduled a practice in Pascoag, Rhode Island. After their first practice, Pat and Steve decided that they both suck at dodge ball. The coach agreed. This unfortunate outcome lead to the auspicious convergence of 70’s stripes and high tops with a thunderously incessant rhythm and a swarm of Angry African Killer Bees.” (Band’s bio)

When Providence, RI band Arab On Radar broke up in 2002, its members went on to form Chinese Stars, Made In Mexico and Athletic Automaton, which is a duo of Stephen Mattos and Patrick Crump (Pellum, 1-2-3, Saturday Night Palsy). All three bands are recording for Skin Graft and AA did a split with Made In Mexico in 2004.
AA’s first release was 2004 “5 Days In Africa” on Kitty Play Records, followed by a split with Made In Mexico, which first came out on New Addition label as CD and was reissued as 12″ by Armageddon Label. They also released a “vs.” recorded with Montreal band AIDS Wolf (2006 “Clash Of The Life-Force Warriors”).
Their last record (as of 2008) is “A Journey Through Roman’s Empire”, which came out in 2007 on Skin Graft. In their review of the album, Tiny Mix Tapes noted that “A Journey Through Roman’s Empire is just that: a journey. You’ll get tired (of all the screeching), you’ll get thirsty (for something ‘pop’-ier), and you’ll want to rest (your ears, HIYO!), but in the end you’ll know it was worth it to scale Shriek Mountain, because – if you’re not already there – you’ll be open to a whole new paradigm, where bad is good and worse is great.”
