Your Guide to 2017 Music Festivals – Northside, Supersonic, Heart of Noise, Liverpool Psych Fest

IHN recently traveled to Durham, North Carolina in order to witness a spectacle of music and technology that is Moogfest. 4 days of workshops, performances, talks and demos got us craving for more. While we can’t jump into Moogfest 2018 right away (though we certainly wish), we would like to offer a pick of upcoming festivals all over UK, US and Europe that caught our eye!
 
Northside-FestNorthside Festival 
Where: Brooklyn, NY
When: June 7 – June 11

Debuting with 50 acts in 2009 this Brooklyn-based festival run by Northside Media Group expanded to expected to play this year. Throughout years Northside featured performances by the likes of Beirut, Run the Jewels, Guided by Voices, Luna, Neko Case, Grouper, Built to Spill and many more.

This year’s edition will feature performances by Big Ups,  Buck Gooter, Bush Tetras, Ciarra Black, Container, Martin Rev, Dead Leaf Echo, Destruction Unit, Downtown Boys (among many others) plus 150 speakers ranging from Bill de Blasio to Instagram‘s Kevin Weil and SNL‘s Sasheer Zamata.

Supersonic-FestivalSupersonic Festival
Where: Birmingham, UK
When: June 16 – June 18

This UK festival run by Lisa Meyer and Jenny Moore offers a combination of music, arts and film. Since its inception in 2003 it featured performances by the likes of Broadcast, Coil, Zombi, Parts & Labor, DJ Rupture, Godflesh, Qui and Battles. 

This year’s edition will feature Nicholas Bullen, Raime, Pigs X 7, Melt Banana, Charles Hayward, Jenny Hval, Art of Burning Water, Princess Nokia and Colin Stetson among many others.

Heart of Noise
Where: Innsbruck, Austria
When: June 2 – June 4

HoN (not to confuse with IHN) is a festival that, in its own words, “overlooks the right boxes to tick: it bangs, cracks, thunders, intones, scratches, and pulses”. The artists that performed at Heart of Noise throughout years include Fennesz, BJ Nilsen, Haxan Cloak, Wolf Eyes, Philip Jeck, Kevin Drumm and Ryoji Ikeda.

Where: Liverpool, UK
When: 22-23 September
