Sonic Youth Week – Other Members Of SY – Past & Present

Past:
Bob Bert (Robert Bertelli) – Played on “Confusion Is Sex”, “Sonic Death” and “Bad Moon Rising”. Eventually, he was replaced with Steve Shelley. Also played with noisy rock’n’roll units like Pussy Galore, Chrome Cranks and Bewitched.
Jim O’Rourke – Extremely prolific in his own right, O’Rourke became an official member of SY in 2001 and quit 4 years later. He was also a member of countless other bands, including Illusion Of Safety, Brise-Glace, Gastr Del Sol and Mimir.
Jim Sclavunos – Gently described by Wire as “infamous elegant degenerate”, Sclavunos played with Sonic Youth in the early 80s. He also joined Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in ’94 and been a member of the band ever since and he also played with Lydia Lunch, 8-Eyed Spy, Cramps, Vanity Set and many others.
Richard Edson – Was briefly a member of SY in the very beginning of their career, but mostly known for his acting – credits include “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, “Good Morning, Vietnam”, “Platoon” and “Dirty Dancing”, among other movies.
Present:
Mark Ibold – Played with Dustdevils in the late 80s / early 90s, joined the Pavement and after Pavement broke up, he became a member of Sonic Youth.
Steve Shelley – A “drummers drummer”, who, in addition to his role in SY also runs Runs Smells Like Records and he’s also in charge of running SYR and Goofin’ labels.
