Sonic Youth News – Dec. ’11 – Upcoming Albums From Disappears, Lee Ranaldo & more!

Although Sonic Youth recently played what might be  their last show ever, members of the band are still as prolific as ever…so read on!
Disappears is a Chicago band that was formed in 2008 and it includes Steve Shelley from SY.  Their upcoming album is Pre Language – and its scheduled for March 2012 release via Kranky label.
Another album set for March 2012 release (this time via Matador) is Lee Ranaldo’s solo outing Between The Time And Tides.  Its his eighth solo album overall and it will include contributions from the likes of Nels Cline, Alan Licht and many others.
Thurston Moore got a string of upcoming tour dates – he started out with Dec. 7 show at Teatro Comunale (Ferraro, Italy) and the end of January will mark beginning of the American leg of his tour. His latest cassette Voice Studies 05 (released via My Dance The Skull label) is now sold out.

Hits Are For Squares – reissue of 2008 compilation of Sonic Youth songs chosen personally by the likes of Beck, Radiohead, Eddie Vedder, Flea, Diablo Cody, Gus Van Sant and many others. Reissues also includes brand new Sonic Youth tune “Slow Revolution”.
Not The Spaces You Know But Between Them – Limited edition 4XLP box set which includes two SY tracks – “In And Out” and “Out And In” (which you can check out here). Other artists featured on the box set are Steve Gunn, Sun City Girls, Wooden Wand, Comets On Fire, Mouthus, Eternal Tapestry, Bardo Pond and Charles Speer & The Helix.
