Original Bluesky thread

You do not need to be a musician to personally participate in cultivating a local scene. team work makes the dream work, don’t let imposter syndrome stop you from participating.

If you know two to four acts that you think would work well together on a bill, congrats you’re a promoter.

If you have a space large enough to hold 20 people and don’t care about noise, congrats you have a venue.

If you know how to develop a basic website, congrats you have the ability to create a show listing service to inform both locals and touring acts of where/when shows are happening in your area.

If you know how to talk to people and write about/photograph/film/record your experiences, congrats you’re a reporter that’s able to document your scene for the sake of both posterity and promotion of the artists you showcase.

If you see someone in your local music scene organizing and making moves by themselves and you want to get involved, ask them how you can help.

Music is social so be social.
