One can only marvel at the variety of sounds produced by Ryan Norris aka Coupler. Said sounds run the gamut from darkish dancefloor stomper The Technocrat to Glassian ambient piece Glass Concrete to the soundtrack work we witnessed the band doing at Big Ears.
As if that wasn’t enough, there’s an album of remixes entitled “Reinvention No. 1” dropping this (Bandcamp) Friday through YK Records. They’re not your average remixes either – those 3 pieces feel like new songs with a character of their own, even though they borrow bits here and there from the original album (Prelude No. 1 by No Stress). Those songs could’ve come from the 70s/free jazz as much as they could’ve been concocted in the late 90s, with my particular favorite being “Jump Up a Mountain) (Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop Mix) that is halfway between jazz/fusion, ambient and house music.
