Legendary Seattle label Sub Pop turned 30 this August! For three decades it served as a home not only to grunge heavyweights like Nirvana and Soundgarden, but also to a slew of well respected (if lesser-known) and diverse acts like Earth, Godheadsilo, Clipping and Wolf Eyes.
We asked we our readers to share their favorite SP releases (and/or artists) – here’s what they had to say:
20 years ago? Something loud. Now? @IronAndWine

That is a freaking hard question with all of the great bands who have been on this label at one time or another. I guess if I have to pick just one The Vaselines Sex with an X. It’s so weird and great.

“Screaming Life/FOPP” is a strong contender regardless. I’d have a hard time between that & Mudhoney S/T, Earth 2, Bleach, Green River “Rehab Doll” (oldies but goodies I know), etc etc etc

Addendum to this: apparently Audit in Progress by Hot Snakes was also on Sub Pop which is also one of my favorite albums
