Drum roll, please!
We’re proud to present a mix by legendary James Toth aka Jimmyjack Toth aka Wooden Wand aka Hassara aka DUNZA. You may know him from such bands as One Eleven Heavy or James and the Giants who put out a self-titled debut on Kill Rock Stars last year.
As you probably aware, James is also a part of our upcoming split with another legendary musician – Matt Valentine. And in case you’re still not aware somehow, head over to our Bandcamp page and watch the preview!
Onto the mix itself…hour one is a very deep dive into late 60s/early 70s folk and psychedelia, as well as some diversions. How about Rainy Day, a collaboration between David Roback (Opal / Mazzy Star / Rain Parade) and Susanna Hoffs / Vicky Peterson from Bangles? Included in JTs mix is their rendition of Neil Young’s “Flying on the Ground”.
Or how about an incredibly haunting voice of Tia Blake, a folk singer/songwriter that recorded one sole poorly promoted record in 1971? You can hear her version of the traditional “Wish I Was a Single Girl Again”. Then there’s also songs by Arthur Russell, Pretty Things, Michael Polnareff….
Hour 2 is where things get super-adventurous – going from avant (Ghedalia Tazartes) to proto-shoegaze (A.R. Kane) and a lot, lot more. So without further ado….
