New Music

Low Leaf – Red Moon / another artist of today’s jazz harp renaissance, starting with an Alice Coltrane cover and taking off from there – Bill Barnett

Yutaka Hirasaka – Now is Now (Inner Ocean Records) / Happy to see Yutaka Hirasaka has an album coming out on Inner Ocean Records. Beautiful guitar ambient work – tania

Tim Bowness – Powder Dry (Kscope) (via Sue Max)

Dame Area – Toda La Verdad Sobre Dame Area (Mannequin Records) / The mighty Dame Area taking no prisoners, as is their won’t – Nic Brown

Still House Plants – If I don’t make it, I love u / forgot to listen to this until a friend reminded me. excellent album – Vardaman Ensemble

Thread of new music by PJW – Gerald Cleaver, Lea Bertucci, World of White Ice/Angel Marcloid, Machinefabriek

Chrysanths – Leave No Shadow / solo project of Modern Studies’ Emily Scott, a set of cinematic songs with lush string arrangements – Bill Barnett

David Lance Callahan –  Down To The Marshes / only needs two more sales to top 100 pre-orders, hint hint

Powers / Rolin Duo – Clearing / Finally giving this one a listen this AM. Suppose I did need another Duo album from these two – Nick J Mascis

90 Day Men – We Blame Chicago (Numero Group) / Really enjoying these Numero boxsets at the moment. Been on this one from 90 Day Men today, and it’s perfect if you like that slightly jerky, awkward emo-y, post punky sort of thing. Which I very much do – Gavin Miller

Leaving – Liminal (Transylvanian Recordings) / a sorrowful doomgaze band from Oakland with members of Noothgrush, Amber Asylum, Graves at Sea and Funerary – Dan Kletter

VA – Landnotes. 1 (Wayside & Woodland)

Listening Recommendations

James and the Giants – S/T / I’m so torn right now. One of our kids just asked me to play the James and the Giants album and I had to tell him no because he hasn’t done the chores we asked. Parenting is hard. – Brent Thomas

Grouper –  She Loves Me That Way / beautiful, stunningly beautiful….but almost UNCOMFORTABLY so – Petridisch

Flying Saucer Attack – Instrumentals 2015 / I felt like the response to this was muted at the time so I’m revisiting. Always a big fan of solo albums that sound truly “solo” aka sounds like a musician alone in a room – grimisham

William Tyler – Impossible Truth / Anyway, listening to this William Tyler album again and it’s still amazing. Gutted he cancelled his tour, but obviously for the best given the circumstances – Gavin Miller
