New Music
Other Light Ensemble – blue fifty-one (Blue Tapes) / Cinematic jazz soundscape that restores mystery and intrigue to our day to day. Featuring The Necks’ Tony Buck, Patrick Shiroishi and Alessandro Cau.
Meril Wubslin – Faire Ça (Les Disques Bongo Joe) / The moody, dreary, heady sounds of this new Meril Wusblin album are perfect for the kick off of October. Hypnotically percussive and sung in French. Riyl The Limiñanas, Portishead, Juana Molina, depressing bangers that put you in the 😵💫 zone – Nick J Mascis
Helena Hauff – Multiply Your Absurdities (Tresor) (h/t Sporksticks)
BLXPLTN – New York Fascist Week / BLXPLTN, politically oriented electro-punk/industrial from Austin, Texas / I can’t decide if they’re really doing an industrial version of Black Flag or if my mind is just stuck there because the cover art is a rif off Ray Pettibon’s work. Either way I’m digging this – Nihilistic Wrong Hordak
Jill Fraser – Earthly Pleasures / The new record from Jill Fraser looks to be quite good. The first sample track reminds me of Cale & Riley’s Church of Anthrax, the second one a little of Plantasia – Mark Doyle
Repeated Viewing – Strip Their Flesh + The Artefact (Spun Out Of Control) / Sinister synthy soundtracks to two imaginary grindhouse films – riddo
Merce Lemon – Watch Me Drive Them Dogs Wild / outstanding – Ezra Brooks
Pharmakon – Maggot Mass (h/t tania)
Tremble With Joy – >Born Trembling< (False Walls) / Tremble With Joy is a new collaboration between Cinder (Cindytalk), Michael Anderson (Drekka), Mark Trecka, and Michael Carlson (remst8). Their debut, >Born Trembling<, comprises two longform, complementary experimental compositions. (h/t Rosco)
Laura Masotto – The Spirit of Things (7k) / Post-Classical / Experimental / Cinematic / Yes, one of those not-quite-sure-how-to-place-it-in-a-genre records. Ambient, moody, cinematic soundscapes by classically-trained Italian violinist – cuppa_coffee
Shane Parish – Repertoire / see also – a cover of Autechre’s Slip
VA – Action Now! A Paperface Zine Benefit for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (Paperface Zine) / A great primer on what is happening in various scenes around the world, for the noblest of causes – New Music Jason
Listening Recommendations
Ye Gods – No Albion / Dark as night second outing on legendary NYC label L.I.E.S. / Unholy drones, analog machine voices from beyond the stars. Proper nightmare fueled trip-rock. Lunar cycle musick.
Pharmakon – Abandon / Album of the morning (pls handle with care) – Stefan
Distant Dream – Point Of View / Poland’s Distant Dream weave a great post rock experience. They are haunting and mystical, bringing even hang drums in some tracks. It is beautifully redolent of a deeper time – Liquid Gibbon
connect_icut – Mars Maps Waterloo Moon / final album / PWYW
Xylouris White – Mother (h/t odubdha)
NoMeansNo – Forget Your Life (h/t Goldheart Mountaintop Halloween Directory)
