New Music
Take Me There – Odds and Ends, Vol. 1 (Compilation) (Passed Recordings) / We are sneaking in one last release this year – a new compilation from Take Me There, featuring tracks previously not on streaming, both old and new demos and some great remixes from Ed Herbers, Exit Chamber, Chris Hobbs and I felt it in my sleep
Ingebrigt Håker Flaten – (Exit) Knarr – Live at artacts ´22 (h/t JazyJef)
BedouinDrone – The View Of A ... (h/t Mark’s Music)
Human Impact – Gone Dark (Ipecac) / This album came out in early October & I loved it immediately, easily AOTY contender. In the last two months, it has barely left my CD player. A bleak, furious, intense storm of cathartic, caustic punk laced with searing synths and galloping bass – Christopher Lee Melkus
Will Mason Quartet – Hemlocks, Peacocks (New Focus Recordings) / Microtonal chamber-jazz inspired by LaMonte Young + more. Out Jan 10.
Scalasoft Systems – New Years at Azure Atoll (Fireflower Foundation) / Turn up that dial on your radio receiver and tune in to your annual New Years transmission, directly from København-Kalundborg, now broadcasting all the way to the technicolor tropics south of Tahiti!
SAULT – Acts Of Faith / Now listening to a new album from British jazz/r&b/soul collective, SAULT. It was recorded last year and originally presented with a ballet and fashion show. It’s a short album, but full of light. “Someone to Love You” and “Pray for Me” were standouts for me – E.A.
Mercury Rev – Born Horses / My nights have become days, and that’s fine – HT
New music picks by PJW – Lucky Bone + Working Models
Listening Recommendations
Michael Grigoni – Mount Carmel / Sparse playing, melodic phrasing, the use of loopers, and the use pedal steel are all just wonderfully mixed together – Crows Labyrinth
Lloyd Main – Eagle Number 65 / Going deep on pedal steel to end the year – jliggett
A.AV – Hagbards’ Lost UHF Transmission_02 / Ken Campbell samples, Illuminatus trilogy inspired, Robert Anton Wilson infused and played on the radio by Andy Wetherall… the holy trinity for my lo fi VHS Electro Project – amoeba
David Sylvian – Late Night Shopping / From his sixth album, “Blemish”; when I bought the album, I found it hard to listen to the first few times, as it is so sparse & raw (it documents the break down of his relationship with Ingrid Chavez) but now it’s one of my favorites of his – Prof Gavin Yamey
Bill Laurance & The Untold Orchestra – Bloom / Amazing mix of strings and piano with some quite sublime compositions and his amazing touch – Fraser H
43ODES – HWN UN AMN (Eiderdown Records) / slow motion kosmische – Alan Holt
