2009 brought out a whole number of new bands and new supergroups to watch out for. Listed below are some of the notable ones:
Risil (MySpace) – Supegroup that features Guillermo Herron (Prefuse 73), Zach Hill (Hella), Tyondai Braxton (Battles), John McEntire (Tortoise), Alejandro Dejeza (School Of Seven Bells) and Eva Puyuelo Muns (Savath & Savalas). They debut – “Non Meters Vol. 1” – came out on Important Records and according to Boomkat catalog “the line-up extends beyond this starry assemblage however, and further volumes in the Risil saga shall involve different sets of players.”
Bygones (MySpace) – A duo of Zach Hill (Hella, Team Sleep, Goon Moon, Nervous Cop, Holy Smokes) and Nick Reinhart (Tera Melos) that released “By-” on Sargent House label. Greymachine (MySpace) – Quartet that includes Aaron Turner (Isis, Lotus Eaters, Old Man Gloom), Dave Cochrane (God, Head Of David, Jesu, Sweet Tooth), Dermot Dalton (Cable Regime, Godflesh, Jesu) and Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu, Final). Spinnerette (MySpace) – Band that includes Brody Dalle and Tony Bevilacqua from Distillers, Jack Irons (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Eleven) and Alain Johaness (Queens Of The Stone Age, Eleven). According to Brody Dalle, “Spinnerette isn’t a band, it’s me and whichever musicians I want to work with at the time.” They released their self-titled album in 2009 on Anthem Records.
Kings Of Belgium (MySpace) – Trio that includes Gil Mortio (Attica), Pierre Vervloesem (X-Legged Sally, dEUS, Flat Earth Society) and Al Battor (A Group, dEUS). They released “Unchained Melodies” album on OffLabel Records – it includes material recorded by the band in two days in 2007.
