Video Premiere: Mzungu – November

Who would’ve thought that watching liquid being spilled in slo-mo fo 11 minutes could be so engrossing? Perhaps in case of the video for November by UK musician Mzungu (aka Snekhoose) what makes it so fascinating is how the original images seem to be slowly morphing into pictures of space once you stare at them long enough. 

Yes, space. The vast and unforgiving kind. And the accompanying sinister soundtrack that indicates you’re about to be devoured by a monster (or two) jumping out from behind the next door. “November” could well be an alternative soundtrack to Half-Life – while there are no monsters anywhere in sight, the effect produced by imagery and music is just about as gripping as that of HL’s most anxiety-inducing moments. And to think that these are just the milk and olive oil spills  you’re looking at…
