Video Premiere: Barbara Morgenstern – Am Rand

Futuristic and forward-thinking to the t, Barbara Morgenstern‘s music simply cries out for an equally forward-thinking visual backdrop and Petridisch delivers the goods. “Am Rand”, one of her earliest recordings, still sounds very fresh in spite of being more than 20 years old and its only fitting that the video for the song is pure a e s t h e t i c s.
And by a e s t h e t i c s here we don’t mean the slowed down Diana Ross samples, but rather a look akin to that produced by broken and battered VHS player about to give up the ghost. Things corrode and things get damaged, but its a beautiful kind of destruction where glitches and color blend together to create a distinct visual poetry.
Enter the Partyzone, reissue of Barbara Morgenstern’s original 1997 tape, is out now on Fish Prints. Limited to 75 copies.
