Alan Vega’s name is synonymous with unfettered, tireless creativity. Beginning in the late 1950s, when he was a fine art student at Brooklyn College, through his years playing in Suicide, and all the way up until his death in 2016, Vega was constantly creating. That process naturally led to a wealth of material that didn’t see the light of day immediately when it was recorded, which came to be known as the Vega Vault.

Here at I Heart Noise HQ we talk Alan Vega and Suicide quite a bit (chief instigator of all the Vegatalk being Ben Malkin). And its all for a good reason – Mr. Vega might be gone, but certainly isn’t forgotten and won’t be anytime soon (this little clip of Suicide opening for Cars in Boston is just one of the many reasons why).

Perhaps even more Vegatalk is in order, since we spotted a bit of interesting news via Turn Up the Volume this morning…

In 1995/1996 ALAN VEGA, half of synth-punk pioneers Suicide and his wife Liz Lamere, recorded an album called Mutator. In 2019 Lamere and close Vega friend Jared Artaud discovered the original tapes and decided to mix the songs into a proper LP.

“The moment Liz and I discovered the original ADAT tapes of Mutator, we knew we had found something special and felt strongly that it needed to be shared out in the world. It’s something we feel he would have been really proud of, seeing this lost album released today” said Artaud.

Mutator is slated for April release via Sacred Bones. In the meantime, watch the video for Nike Solider.
