Guest Mixes / Playlists

Listen: Guest Mix #2 by Reuben Bettsak (Emerald Comets)

Reuben Bettsak is no stranger to collaboration. The Boston multi-intrumentalist is probably best known for his work in psych-gaze ensemble Guillermo Sexo and trippy space-pop quintet Future Carnivores, but has resurfaced once again with a new project that meets somewhere between the two, if that middle grounded was shrouded in enough fuzz to catch all the lads in Supergrass.

Dubbed Emerald Comets, the project started as a solo tip at the initiative request of music blog Clicky Clicky, and now features collaborative contributions from members of the Wrong Shapes, Drab, Washington DC’s Insect Factory, and of course, Guillermo Sexo. – Michael Marotta / Vanyaland

We’re extra proud to welcome back Reuben of Boston’s dream pop/shoegaze crew Emerald Comets (and formerly Guillermo Sexo). Our association stretches all the way back to 2016 and a gorgeous album entitled Explore Your Dreams (that came along with an accompanying mix of Reuben’s personal favorites).

Fast forward to 2020 and EC is back with a new record (Strangelands) that was described as having hints of Slint / Trupa by Frogkingart and also received a track-by-track treatment. Considering all this it only felt right and natural for us to ask Reuben for another round of favorites, so here they are!

And there’s even more guest mixes in our archives
