“Yubacore” is a newly unveiled track from “Tripper” – an upcoming full-length from Sacramento duo Hella. The album itself is scheduled for August 30 release via Sargent House.
It’s always fascinating to hear what Zach Hill, one of our most lyrical, inventive, and most technically gifted drummers, does with his Vinnie Colaiuta-indebted strain of progressive timekeeping and percussive mindfuckery. The focus this season is on Hella, his artful punk/metal/prog/noise-stained project with guitarist Spencer Seim. (Hella are again a duo, after a record as a quintet, 2007′s There’s No 666 In Outer Space.) Their new album is titled Tripper. We’ve heard the “Untitled” lead track, and here, on “Yubacore,” Zach sounds more Steve Gadd fly.
