Chill Noise often feels like a trip towards the harsh stillness at the eye of an electricity storm. Evolving layers of tension swell and subside while the jagged shards of noise are tempered by a surprising warmth and sense of deliberate composition that went into crafting the finely-detailed works.
Vienna-based Phirnis utilizes complex and individually-dense sounds - searing digital drones, ululating FM freakouts and deep distorted percussion - to create something akin to a Cafe del Mar music for finding peace on a concrete beach on the edge of a cosmic void.
