Charlie’s Kitchen

Black Beach / Rye Pines / Proper Nouns / Night Beat

Feb. 17 / 5$

BB is loud, dirty rock’n’roll. RP is heavy shit for weirdos. Proper Nouns are on tour and Night Beat are playing their first show.

doors 8. tunes at 9. $5 cover (way more reasonable than those RATM shows if you ask us).

Great Scott

Telefon Tel Aviv / Steve Hauschildt

Feb. 19 / $12

An undercurrent of eerie melancholy flows through the album, manifested in shivering widescreen meditations, depressive twilit modern pop, and devotional industrial abstractions. Melodies emerge and evaporate; rhythms lock in step then fracture and fade; centers cannot hold. – liner notes for Dreams Are Not Enough by TTA

Chicago-based contemporary electronic musician Steve Hauschildt has composed panoramas of synthesized sound for over a decade. First within his former band, Emeralds, an American touchstone of 2000s home-recorded psychedelic noise music, and later across a steady and critically-acclaimed stream of solo releases.

Bambara / Way Out / Kal Marks

Feb. 22 / $12 adv / 14$ dos

Bambara – twin brothers Reid and Blaze Bateh, singer/guitarist and drummer respectively, and bassist William Brookshire – have been evolving their midnight-black noise into something more subtle and expansive ever since the release of their 2013 debut Dreamviolence. That process greatly accelerated on 2018’s Shadow On Everything, their first on Wharf Cat and a huge stride forward for the band both lyrically and sonically. – Liner notes for Stray

Consisting of singer and guitarist Derek Knox, drummer Anna Wingfield, and bassist Nick Sadler (Daughters, Fang Island], Way Out’s sound leans heavy on a driving rhythm section interlaced with melodic guitar hooks reminiscent of post-punk greats Wire, Wipers, and early-era Cure. – Metal Temple

Considered veterans of the Boston DIY scene, Kal Marks has been going for over a decade, constantly pushing themselves and growing along the way. Their tireless work ethic keeps them out on the road, throughout the US and most recently their first tour of Europe and the UK. – Exploding in Sound

Combining art and scholarship in a spirit of dialogue and controversy, the conference aims to dissolve boundaries between different arenas of sonic engagement to identify paths towards alternative, more inclusive futures.

Co-presented by Non-Event.

Suggested by Gildedy Tableaux

Club Bohemia

Scuzzy Yeti / Death Pesos / 3 Parts Dead / Blue Manic

Feb. 28 / Heavy rock at a Cambridge institution.

SY is about blown out vintage tones and a taste for the unknown. DP is a power trio. 3PD plays rock n’ roll with all the subtlety of an atomic bomb.  BM play music (most likely rock kind).
