While Brazilian bassist/singer Ricardo Dias Gomes is best known for his association with Tropicalia legend Caetano Veloso, his solo material demonstrates few ties with traditional Brazilian music. -11, his debut, was compared by Wire Magazine to the work of Laetitia Sadier and Money Mark and if Precipicio is any indication, AA, his upcoming EP, will see Gomes moving even further into the abstract territory.
A certain homage to both modern day glitch/drone aesthetics of labels like Raster-Noton and early industrial (echoes of Einsturzende Neubauten wafting through), Precipicio is a brief but fascinating glimpse into Gomes’s continuing evolution as a solo artist. The video features choreographic interpretation of the track as performed by RDG himself.
