Gleefully depicting the life of deviants and incompetents, Austin’s Crust explores dementia with sound in the great tradition of Black Sabbath (depression), Black Flag (psychosis) and the Butthole Surfers (schizophrenia).

Crust was an Austin, Texas trio of John Hawkins, Richard Smith (Miracle Room, Bontempi Bros) and Jerry Page, which formed in 1987 under the name Mud Honey. In order to avoid confusion with grunge band of the same name, they changed name to Crust and eventually signed to King Coffey’s (Butthole Surfers) label Trance Syndicate.

Bipolar Gentlemen is a new project of Richard Smith. In their own words:
We are a four piece, DIY band that doesn’t really fall into any particular genre of music which we wouldn’t have any other way. We utilize homemade amps, scrap metal, car springs, weird tunings and much more to create our music.
The band’s debut EP Oblique Sundays is available for free download here.
