OWV is a Toronto-based quartet, which was formed in 2008 and includes Mike Costanzo (guitar, loops, sampling), Devin Hughes (sythesizers), Jamie Hunter (drums) and Anthony Perri(bass).
Is it Canada’s bleak, expansive wilderness that makes us create epic, sprawling drone rock? Maybe it’s the long, cold winters. At any rate, you can now add Old World Vulture to the stack of great Canadian drone bands. Hailing from Toronto, Old World Vulture are an instrumental drone/psych rock band with a lot in common with bands like SIANspheric and the legendary Mogwai. The band merges menacing guitar work with soaring electronics to great effect. They are able to make your skin crawl and make you take a deep cleansing breath all within the space of a single song.
