Root Strata Tribute

And we just lost another one…talking about Brooklyn label Root Strata, a quiet but intense presence on the experimental scene, that shut its doors after more than a decade of activity. Formed by Jefre-Cantu Ledesma and Maxwell August Croy in 2005, thewas responsible for putting out material by both its founders and countless others including Grouper, Pete Swanson, Christina Carter, Barn Owl and Richard Youngs.

We decided to ask our readers about their favorite RS releases and here are their picks:
Grouper – Cover the Windows and Walls (2007) (picked by Zona Zanjeros) – later reissued by Yellow Electric
Barn Owl – Raft of Serpents (2008) (picked by Edward Sugden)
Barn Owl – The Conjurer (2009) (picked by Slenko & McKeys)
Grouper / Roy Montgomery Split (2010) (picked by Petridisch)
Keith Fullerton Whitman – Generator (2010) (picked by DJ Hummingbird Feeder)
Golden Retriever – Light Cones (2011) (picked by Auxiliary Out)
Harold Budd – Perhaps (2013) (picked by How to Dress Well) – originally released as an mp3 album by Samadhisound
