Listen: Scholars Mix by Buke & Gase

Its no surprise that practically every review of Buke & Gase records comes loaded with terms like “otherworldly” and “off-kilter”. Both of those are very much applicable to the work of Brooklyn duo whose performance we had a chance to witness at 2017 Hopscotch Festival:

Using homemade instruments and loops they create a universe entirely of its own – a sweet spot between experimental music and traditional pop/R&B. And now we’re proud to present a mix that Buke & Gase put together to celebrate the release of Scholars, their latest/3rd LP that is out on Brassland!

Jeremih – Pass Dat
The space and textures of this track are amazing, with perfect little hooks, we referred to this a lot during the mixing of Scholars.

Erykah Badu – Phone Down
Love the simplicity and repetition of the vocal and vibe on this track.

Tricky – Christiansands
Everything about this track, perfect.

Depeche Mode – Never Let Me Down
DM are master pop songwriters, I love how massive and dark everything about this track is while making you feel motivated and uplifted at the same time.

Tame Impala – New Person, Same Old Mistakes
Also referred to this track during our mixing process, and for inspiration simplifying arrangements.

Georgia Anne Muldrow – Run Away
This song, and the entire album, Early, has been inspiring at each listen, and I challenge myself to sing along.

Serpentwithfeet – Four Ethers
This artist is an endless flame and teaches me the beauty of honesty.

Thundercat – Friend Zone
Jaw droppability contained in molecular deconstruction

Hiatus Kaiyote – The Lung
The blood flow of a calm superhero

Nicole Moudaber – Don’t Talk to Me I’m Dancin
Because it’s true
