Label News – Hydra Head (June 2012) – Old Man Gloom, Souvenirs From Botch, Tour Dates

Historical Note

Hydra Head Records is an independent record label which specializes in heavy metal music, founded in New Mexico by Aaron Turner (the frontman of Isis) in 1993. It has two imprints; Hydra Head Noise Industries, which specialises inexperimental and noise music, and another entitled Tortuga Records.

Old Man Gloom (yes, that’s short for OMG, but whether that was intentional or not remains a mystery) is a supergroup which was formed in the late 90s by then-Isis frontman Aaron Turner and Santos Montana, drummer for Zozobra/Forensics. Current line-up also includes Nate Newton (Converge/Doomriders) and Caleb Scofield (Cave In/Zozobra).
NO is the band’s latest album, available as a double-LP set, cassette and CD.
Head over to OMG’s Bandcamp page to stream few songs from the album and/or pre-order it or head over here to listen to a stream of Carry The Flame (courtesy of Decibel Magazine).
In Decibel’s own words:

Some of these other show-off sites that premiere tracks from a really good group that everyone loves have nothing on us, because we are streaming a track from a Supergroup (yeah, I totally capitalized that, motherfucker) that includes dudes from six other really good groups. Which is kind of weird, because there are only four people in the group.

To mark the 10th year anniversary of Botch‘s last show, HHR offers a limited edition Botch windbreaker (grab it here) + CD/DVD of the band’s final show (which you can grab here).

Finally, you can head over to HHR offical website to check out tour dates for  Mammifier, Helms Alee, Steve Brodsky, Pelican, Big Business, Torche and Kayo Dot.
For more info on label’s current activities, visit their official site.
