Dispatches from the Underground // June 2025 Pt. 1

New Music

Holy Wave – Studio 22 Singles and B-Sides / If you’re digging the new Stereolab record, this one from an Austin-based band is a nice chaser. It opens with a low-key but epic psych jam and then unspools in a dreamy paradigm. No skips – Listening Habit

Architrave – Panic Joy

St James Infirmary – Astaroth / NOTPOP. 45 minute drone type thing. sorta riff kicks in at 8 minutes. guitar about 20 minutes in. for listening to in the dark / pay what you want

Dummy – Bubbelibrium DLC / remix album featuring Donkey Basketball, Wishy, AV Moves, Powers / Rolin Duo, Channeler, Three Quarter Skies, Glassine, Immersion (Colin Newman/ Malka Speigal) and moooooore

Phirnis – The Gateway Tape (Strategic Tape Reserve)

Prymek, Wyche, Pinyonpine – The Tragedy Of Wind (Yardwork Records)

Trium Circulorum – Wire Tripping (Third Kind Records)

The Myrrors – Land Back (h/t Crypto-Zoological Disaster)

Raphael Rogiński & Ružičnjak Tajni – Bura / I don’t recall hearing a single release featuring Raphael Rogiński that wasn’t absolutely stellar and this is no exception – Nic Brown

VA – Marc Urselli’s Ramones (Redux) (Redux Records) / A very avant garde Ramones cover album dropped! Including Napalm Death & Thurston Moore covering ‘Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue’ – j-e-l

VA – 666 (Loud Silence) / I love this label. They have tons of great ambient and various states of electronica gems in the catalogue – lmrryr

VA – Waking Life & Dreaming Live – Letters to the Sun (Dreaming Live) / Astonishing compilation, this, featuring new music from Faten Kanaan, Nicolás Jaar, Israa Shalaby and many others. Proceeds go to the Revive Gaza’s Farmland project set up in response to the weaponisation of food in the ongoing genocide. You know what to do – Nic Brown

Listening Recommendations

J.M. Hart – Slips, Trips, & Falls / CDs are still available & cheap!

Anders Brørby – Nihil (Gizeh Records) / A perfect mix of distortion/feedback/noise and beautiful, cinematic synth work – Brandon Invergo

Drywall – Back Towards Diamond Bar / Speaking of LA in Decay: Stan Ridgway (and friends) in 1994 with their snapshot of life as it was – Critical Nostalgia
