More Bandcamp picks from the most recent BC Friday courtesy of our followers – one comes from Chicago band Ganser and the other one from The Texas Hammer!

Ganser

Oceanator – Things I Never Said (Self Released)

Musically, Oceanator is still cranking out super-catchy, kinda-grungy indie rock, with a soaring chorus of “it’s not what you wanted but it’ll do” and a half-speed breakdown where she sings “I’m still trying my best.” – Brooklyn Vegan

Sad13 – Haunted Painting (Wax Nine)

Haunted Painting, Sad13’s second album and first for Dupuis’ label Wax Nine (Melkbelly, Johanna Warren), marks her return to artmaking. “Some of these songs feel like emotions that came from a cloud, and I was trying to translate them,” she says. But the scope of a Sad13 song is rarely only personal.

Pom Pom Squad – Crimson + Clover (Self Released)

Crimson + Clover is out in honor of pride month and Juneteenth. This marks the first song we’ve released that I produced all by myself (!!!) and both the song and video were made completely in quarantine. This year would have been my first Pride as an ‘out’ person. It took me a long time to come to terms with my identity in a true and honest way, but I am proud to meet myself where I am now.

New Fries – Is the Idea of Us (Telephone Explosion)

New Fries has never been interested in being a band. What we mean is a spirit of abandoning ideas of what songs should be, how they should be performed, and by whom. We’ve never been interested in the tradition of songwriting—though we’re interested in musical elements like repetition, space, and dynamics.

Ganser – Just Look at That Sky (Felte)

See track-by-track breakdown of the album that Nadia and Alicia did for us.

The Texas Hammer

Annabelle Chairlegs – Gotta Be in Love (Self Released)

Coming in September with two singles (Oustide + Candy Apple Red) currently available for streaming. Former single brings to mind Brian Jonestown Massacre and latter got more of classic rock / Zep vibe.

Holy Wave – Interloper (Reverberation Appreciation Society)

With Interloper Holy Wave weaves together a contemplative tapestry that can serve as a road map for the diffident, a soundtrack to self-realization, or simply an invitation to escape. – Rough Trade

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – Honey (Flightless Records)

Shot at sunset during the apocalypse with a reeeeeeal long lens,” Mackenzie wrote of the song on Twitter. “I wrote this song a couple of years ago. It’s nice to have it out in the world.

Weyes Blood – Titanic Rising (Sub Pop)

The phantom zone, the parallax, the upside down—there is a rich cultural history of exploring in-between places. Through her latest, Titanic Rising, Weyes Blood (a.k.a. Natalie Mering) has, too, designed her own universe to soulfully navigate life’s mysteries. Maneuvering through a space-time continuum, she intriguingly plays the role of melodic, sometimes melancholic, anthropologist.
