The label’s anniversary show is going to take place in Minneapolis, which will feature an awesome line-up of the band’s acts including Today Is The Day, Hammerhead, Vaz, God Bullies and many others. There will also be photo and art exhibits related to the label’s releases/artists.
Participants:
Melvins – Dearly beloved American rock band formed in 1983 and led by Buzz Osbourne. Currently, it also includes Dale Crover, Jared Warren and Coady Willis. Read the band’s biography/discography on IHRTN.
Boss Hog -The band formed by Jon Spencer after the dissolution of Pussy Galore. The line-up also includes his wife Cristina Martinez, as well as Jens Jurgensen, Hollis Queens and Mark Boyce. The band went on long hiatus after release of “The Whiteout” album in 2000, but started playing shows again in 2008. Read the band’s biography/discography on IHRTN.
Today Is The Day – Experimental/noise rock band out of Nashville, Tennessee led by Steve Austin. The band includes rotating line-up and and at one point featured Bill Kelliher and Brann Dailor (both of whom went on to play with Mastodon). Their latest release (as of 2010) is “Axis Of Eden”, which came out on Austin’s ownSupernova. Currently, the band is recording a new album which is scheduled for a Fall 2010 release. God Bullies – Kalamazoo, Michigan band which recorded numerous singles/full-lengths between 1985 and 1996. The band’s original members include Mike Hard, David Livingstone and Adam Berg. Read the band’s biography / discography on IHRTN.
Hammerhead – Minneapolis band which originally consisted of Jeff Mooridian Jr., Paul Erickson and Paul Sanders. They recorded two full-lengths (1992 “Ethereal Killer” and 1994 “Into The Vortex”), before Sanders left the band. Hammerhead recorded one more album (1996 “Duh, The Big City”) before remaining band members started playing as a duo under the name Vaz.
The Thrown Ups – Humorous /bizarre project that included members of Icky Joey, Mudhoney, Green River and That Petrol Emotion. Read the band’s biography/discography on IHRTN.
Vaz – Formed by Jeff Mooridian Jr. and Paul Erickson after the dissolution of Hammerhead. So far, they recorded few full-lengths (including 2001 “Demonstrations In Micronesia” and 2003 “Dying To Meet You”) for such labels as Gold Standard Laboratories and Narnack Records. Gay Witch Abortion -Two piece (guitar/drums) band out of Minneapolis that includes Shawn Walker and Jesse Bottomley. Read a review of their album “Maverick” on Culture Bully.
