This is not The Greatest Song in the World, no.
This is just a tribute.
Couldn’t remember The Greatest Song in the World, no, no.
This is a tribute, oh, to The Greatest Song in the World

Tenacious D – Tribute

Tribute album, by definition, represents a mixed bag – tribute album success often depends on a line-up of artists and ways in which tribute bands/performers transform the original/add something that was missing from the original version.
With that in mind, here’s a selection of tribute albums that were chosen by me for being more creative/original than your average tribute album (as well as for original selection of the tribute figure, as you’ll see):
Masters Of Misery (Black Sabbath tribute) (Earache, 1992 / 1997)
Du Huskers: The Twin Cities Replay Zen Arcade (Husker Du tribute) (Synapse Recordings, 1993)
Our Band Could Be Your Life: A Tribute To D Boon And The Minutemen (Little Brother Records, 1994)
Whore (Wire tribute) (WMO, 1996)
Ubu Dance Party: A Tribute To Pere Ubu (Datapanik, 1997)
Great Jewish Music – Marc Bolan (Tzadik, 1998)
In Formation: A Tribute To Throbbing Gristle (Attention Deficit Recordings, 2000)
Confuse Your Idols: A Tribute To Sonic Youth (Narnack Records, 2004)
Lean Into It (Die Kreuzen Tribute) (Erosion Records, 2005)
We Reach: The Music Of Melvins (Fractured Transmitter Recording Company, 2005)
Release The Bats: The Birthday Party As Heard Through The Meat Grinder Of Three One G (31G, 2006)
