Melvins probably don’t need no special introduction – they were around for what seems like an eternity, got praise from the likes of Kurt Cobain, Mike Patton and John Zorn and released an astonishing amount of albums, singles and collectibles. Despite the success of Nevermind, they never achieved any mainstream success and remain a cult band, albeit the one that’s still releasing records, recording new music and touring on a constant basis.
Core of the band is singer/guitarist Buzz Osbourne and drummer Dale Crover and everchanging line-up of other members, which currently includes Coady Willis and Jared Warren (both of whom are also in Big Business).
Associated Bands – Altamont, Big Business, Fantomas, Thrones, Karp, Murder City Devils, Nirvana, Plainfield, Sawed Off, C Average, Witchypoo, High On Fire, Earth, Venomous Concept, Clown Alley, Mudhoney, Cows, Teenage Larvae, Tomahawk, Fecal Matter
Fun Facts:
- They were named after a grocery store clerk at a Thriftway store in Montesano, WA, where Osbourne also worked as a store clerk (Wikipedia)
- Some of their collectibles throughout years included two-headed dolls, skateboard, Zippo lighter and specially canned Melvins meat (Wikipedia)
- Japanese band Boris is named after one of their songs (Wikipedia)
- Buzz Osbourne is not related in any way to Ozzy Osbourne, although Melvins count Black Sabbath among influences
